Cobb County Attorney Bill GentryBill Gentry has been practicing law for over 20 years. Bill is an Atlanta native, and he comes from a family with a strong legal tradition. His father (Judge Edgar Gentry) practiced law for over 50 years and his grandfather (Charles E. Baggett) practiced law for many years in Dublin, Georgia. Bill's brother, sister-in-law, and brother-in-law are practicing attorneys in New York City.

In 1981, Bill graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Virginia's Economics Honors Program. He worked as an aide in the United States House of Representatives in Washington, D.C. for two years before attending the University of Georgia School of Law.

After graduating from law school in 1986, Bill spent four years honing his legal skills with a well-known Atlanta law firm handling complex business litigation and a broad range of other legal matters. In 1990, Bill moved his law practice to Marietta and co-founded Flournoy & Gentry. In 1999, Bill established the Gentry Law Firm in Marietta to render cost-effective legal representation to individuals and small businesses.

In 2006, Bill joined with four other prominent Cobb County lawyers to form Gentry, Smith, Dettmering, Morgan & Schnatmeier, LLP.

In March 2001, Bill's fellow Marietta lawyers elected him President of the Cobb County Bar Association; an organization of over 900 fellow Cobb County lawyers and judges. In June 2002, Bill was presented the President's Cup by the State Bar of Georgia for having the finest local bar association in the State of Georgia during his tenure as President of the Cobb County Bar Association.

Bill has been a long-time member of Due West United Methodist Church, serving as Chair of its Staff Parish Relations Committee and Chair of its Long-Range Planning Committee as well as serving on its Administrative Board and its Finance Committee.

Bill is married with two children and lives in Marietta.

Bill has tried hundreds of cases in the state and federal courts in Georgia, and he has handled dozens of appeals in Georgia's Supreme Court and Court of Appeals and the 11th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals in Atlanta.
